The South West Coast is a
relatively unknown and completely unspoilt part of Scotland.
Fanned by the Gulf Stream, the climate is often surprisingly
mild. Small coastal villages, thousands of acres of forests and
gentle but awe-inspiring fells come together to make this an
area of outstanding natural beauty.
Only a few hundred yards from
the lodges is one of Scotland's favourite beaches at Sandyhills
Bay. Set on the Solway Firth, the tidal flow changes this every
day from what seems like miles of walkable sand to a child
friendly shallow bathing beach. Whilst popular in the summer,
the beach is so wide it never seems crowded.
At one end of the beach you will
find enchanting rock pools, from the other end starts a coastal
path walk (regarded as one of the best in the UK) to Rockcliffe,
Kippford and beyond.
The coast continues to fascinate
with small towns such as Kirkcudbright, with its fishing fleet,
Gatehouse of Fleet and Wigtown, famous for its bookshops.
Inland you will discover dramatic
forest parks, peppered with enchanting lochs, with waymarked
walks as well as some of the best mountain-biking in the world,
